Ray Booth

An Alabama native and alumnus of Auburn University’s School of Architecture, Ray moved to New York shortly after graduation and had successful tenures in the offices of such distinguished design talents as John Saladino and Clodagh. A decade later, reuniting with his former professor Bobby McAlpine, Ray joined McAlpine as a partner in his interior design firm. These days, Ray divides his time between the firm’s Nashville office and its expanded New York office, which allows him to keep one foot in the city and the other in his native South.

A member of the prestigious AD100 list of top designers, Ray is the author of Evocative Interiors, his best-selling first book published by Rizzoli in 2018. Ray’s work has received significant recognition from the nation’s most prestigious publications, including covers of Architectural Digest and features in Elle Décor, Veranda, MILIEU, Wall Street Journal and Vogue.com.

In 2019, Ray will launch his inaugural furniture collection with Hickory Chair and his first accessory and lighting collection with Arteriors.

With an undimmed passion for beauty, Ray shares his life and homes in New York and Nashville with his husband John Shea.

Bobby McAlpine

Born in an Alabama sawmill town, Bobby McAlpine designed his first house at the age of five and has not stopped since. Architect, romantic, poet and entrepreneur, he envisions home as a timeless, graceful and emotionally evocative place. From the time he founded the firm in 1983, he has realized this ideal in a diverse array of traditional styles and regional vernaculars for clients all over the country and abroad.  Today, known simply as McALPINE, the firm embraces a brilliant and eclectic family of architects and interior designers with offices in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and New York. They have been listed on Architectural Digest’s AD100 and Elle Décor’s A-List. Their designs include hundreds of residences, restaurants, private chapels, follies in a public park and on private lands, plus hotels, a school, a rehabilitated town and a family compound on a private island in the Caribbean. Their extensive portfolio has been widely published in several books and many periodicals including VERANDA, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Southern Accents, Elle Décor, Southern Living, House & Garden (both US and British editions), Garden & Gun, Coastal Living, MILIEU and Traditional Home. Bobby’s popular furniture line McAlpine Home is available nationwide. He holds both architecture and interior design degrees, and he continues his lifetime of learning in the world’s classroom. Bobby’s critically acclaimed book The Home Within Us quickly became and remains a Rizzoli bestseller. His much-heralded book Poetry of Place was released in October 2017.
